Abstract

This dissertation proposes two approaches to solve data interoperability issues between heterogeneous information models (IMs). For a system to exchange data with other systems, its IM needs to exchange data with IMs of others., i.e., the data interoperability between IMs with different syntax and semantics need to be achieved. The first approach introduces syntax-based data exchange rules between different IMs' metamodels so that transformations between IMs can be automated. The second approach proposes identifying similar entities of classes and properties between IMs based on their lexical similarities, and applying class distances calculated on class hierarchical trees of IMs to narrow the candidates of similar entities, then data exchange rules between recommended similar entities are generated. Via case studies, the proposed techniques reveal to be effective and applicable to automate data interoperability between IMs.
